Gustav Approaches Hurricane Status As It Bears Down on Jamaica - Tropical Storm GUSTAV Public Advisory
posted August 28, 2008 - 1:59pmGustav is expected to hit Jamaica with near-hurricane force winds of 70 Mph, just shy of Category-1 Hurricane status. A hurricane warning is in effect for Jamaica and a hurricane watch is in effect for all of the Cayman Islands.
The storm is expected to increase in strength after hitting warmer waters south of Cuba.
Oil prices jump as the storm threatens oil production areas and New Orleans and the Gulf Coast prepare for the worst.
There were 23 deaths in Haiti from flooding and landslides attributed to the storm.
