Hair Removal options: lots of solutions to an unsightly problem
posted December 1, 2008 - 10:21pmWith so many products available for hair removal these days, it’s a shame that the choices are still so limited. Below is a list of different hair removal products and some of the advantages and disadvantages.
Shaving:
======
Advantages:
Quick
Easy
Cheap
Disadvantages:
Hair grows back quickly
Cuts, rashes, ingrown hairs,
Shadows, when hair is too short to be effectively removed
Waxing / Sugaring:
===============
Advantages:
Accessible, lots of places do this these days
Lasts longer than shaving
Look good for a whole week on vacation, without shadows
Sugaring – easy clean up afterwards
Disadvantages:
Hair will grow back eventually
Hurts
Costs a lot more than a shaver
Have to keep going, the bill that never ends
Waxing – it’s often hard to get some of the wax off
Laser hair removal
Advantages:
Permanent, ultimately, may take more than one visit
Disadvantages:
Painful
Expensive
May not work for hair that lacks pigment (grey, white, blond and red); I went to confirm my knowledge, as it was several years ago I learnt this and some are now claiming to be effective. This is probably worth researching further.
Electrolysis
=========
Advantages:
Permanent
Can buy home Electrolysis products and then sell them when you are done, or share maybe share the bill with a good friend, your going to need somebody to help you with those arm pits!
Disadvantages:
Slow going, especially for larger areas, such as legs
Some hair may grow back, requiring you to make numerous trips or treatments.
Bleaching
========
Advantages:
Makes the hair less noticeable
Disadvantages:
Not permanent
Tweezers
========
Great for small areas, facial hair, eyebrows etc, but as this is not permanent and its slow going, its not very practical for larger areas.
Hair Removal cream
==============
Advantages:
Will give a completely shadow free look
Accessible and not too expensive
Can do this at home
Disadvantages:
It really smells, no matter what it says on the packet
Some people are sensitive to this cream, its wise to do a small patch test first.
So there you have it, when reviewing this list, none of them sound particularly ideal.
Personally, my opinion is, unless you are a supermodel then shave, and get a wax done a few days before a vacation.
Otherwise, I think I would buy a home electrolysis kit, as this seems like the most financially viable way.
However, unwanted facial hair? I would suggest investigating all options very carefully, read reviews, compare prices, and do a lot of research of your own.
