posted September 10, 2009 - 10:27pmEnjoy a fantastic Halloween party for kids or toddlers by making all the fun and festivities age appropriate. A few simple ideas will help you create the perfect Halloween bash.
Create a Spooky Halloween Atmosphere
You can apply some simple Halloween home decorating tips
to help create a party atmosphere for your toddler’s party. First and foremost, purchase a few mysterious items from your local craft store or thrift store. Some of these Halloween party decorations might include a black tablecloth, scarecrows, pumpkins, witches, and ghosts. Usually, these can be purchased for just a few dollars each. Be sure to place these party decorations in strategic locations where the kids will be most likely to see them. You can also print Halloween templates off of the Internet, cut them out, and post them on the walls around the room. Finally, take a few minutes to download some Halloween music or purchase a spooky CD from the store. Children of all ages love to dance and jump around, so this will give them an opportunity to dance to the songs. For a slightly older group, you could even incorporate the chicken dance, hokey pokey, or electric slide.
Decorate Pumpkins for a Craft
If decorating a Halloween pumpkins sounds like a dangerous and complicated party idea for toddlers or children, then try this amazing technique. You can use this craft idea as a main activity for your party, and it doesn’t involve any dangerous tools or sharp objects. First, purchase small to medium size pumpkins from your local craft store for each of the children attending the party. These are usually made from a paper mache type material, so they are lightweight and easy to decorate. Allow the kids to use paints, dried black beans, candy corn, pipe cleaners, and yarn to decorate their Halloween pumpkin masterpieces. These also make a nice party gift, so each child can take theirs home when they leave. An adult might need to help with a hot glue gun for the final additions like the black beans and pipe cleaners.
Provide Games and Snacks
Remember that you are entertaining toddlers and small children who have a short attention span, so Halloween party activities should be short and sweet. It might be best to target about fifteen minutes for each activity. Otherwise, the kids will get bored and become easily distracted. A fun Halloween game idea that allows all of the children to get involved is pin the tail on the black cat. This is played just like pin the tail on the donkey, and you can create your own game pieces without much time involvement. In addition, you can play a game where each of the kids displays the costume they are wearing and gets a chance to show it off. The other toddlers can comment on the various costumes as each takes his or her turn. Finally, don’t forget to make some Halloween cupcakes for dessert. You can always add veggies, fruit, cheese, and ham slices to the Halloween party menu by displaying the treats on Halloween decorated plates and platters. Halloween themed paper plates, cups, and napkins will help accentuate the spooky holiday theme.
