Happy Birthday, Carly Simon

June 25 is the birthday of singer-songwriter Carly Simon, who was born in 1945 (making her 63, if my math skills are still functioning.)

Carly’s father was the “Simon” in the publishing firm Simon & Schuster. After recording several albums with her sister Lucy, she broke out as a solo artist in 1971 with her single “That’s the Way I’ve Always Heard It Should Be.” In 1972, she had her biggest album, NO SECRETS, which included the classic “You’re So Vain” and she remained a popular artist for several years.

My own personal favorite Simon song is the title track to her 1978 album, BOYS IN THE TREE, which is one of the most artfully sexual songs I know.

Happy birthday, Ms. S.
