jdubhub is...the Birthday Boy

Normally, I would rather fly under the radar for this event, but I have found it useful to review my past year on this planet and think about what I want to accomplish during the next. That's why I don't participate in New Year's resolutions--I have two more weeks until I "need" to commit to something.

For those who don't know, since I know you will click my profile anyway, I am now officially 41 years of age. I am probably older than most Xombies, although not in the oldest bracket certainly.

What has happened with me during my 40th year? I have learned political tolerance to the point where I no longer feel the need to debate other people over differing views for no other reason than I believe their views are "wrong". No, the rancor and acrimony over the 2008 presidential election taught me that there are better things to do with my time than engage in political virtual warfare.

Looking back, also, I wrote some of my best articles to date. My article on How Much Money Do You Want to Make Today? was voted by my peers as one of the best Xombytes of 2008. I was also selected for the first class of the Xomba Hall of Fame.

These are well and good, but I am not going to rest on my laurels. During my 41st year on the planet, I am going to exceed past expectations. I already have a plan in place to be a better father and husband for my immediate family and to be a more supportive member of my extended Xomba family. In the case of Xomba, I have a whole series of articles planned on what we can do to make our lives and those in them more meaningful in the Big Picture.

If I were to pick a theme for my goals for my 41st year, it is SERVICE. Service to my Greatest Good and Service to others, including the success of everyone here on Xomba from Nick all the way to the newest Xombie. Point being, I am being the change I want to see in the world.

Thank you for reading my birthday greeting! Won't you join me in toasting our future success?

EDIT: For those of you who do read my profile page, I am going to be rewriting it this week to reflect who I am today. I realize that much of it is dated now.

@XHellcatX-JDubHub-VBM2424--Change is the Only Constant

I'm sure we all know an UNchanging constant, but that doesn't exist anywhere we can understand. So in order to remain 'constant,' one must constantly change 'what one does' (possibly changing 'what one is' to the world, but usually keeping to the same 'morals'--consciously or not). ---Join Us Professional Friends who GET MONEY for Echoing the Universe: 'Too Loud?' I can't remember who it was

and I'm too tired to research but somebody said that if you're the same man you were 20 years ago, then you've just wasted 20 years. Okay, there's a bit of paraphrasing going on there but y'all get the idea. Subscribe to XHellcatX's Xombytes

The trick is finding out who you are and sticking with it

From early childhood, we try on and accept or reject various costumes while trying to decide who we are. While there is a certain genetic component to our identity, it does take some searching to establish who we really are and what we came down here to do. I am not who I was at age 1, 11, 21, 31 or what I will be at 51, 61, or beyond. I can only be who I am today. My actions are an extension of who I am today. As I evolve and learn from my mistakes and successes, I will change how I live my life. I look back at how far I've come in my life--heck even how far I've come with my writing interests on Xomba--and I am amazed and happy that I am moving forward with my life while still keeping my eyes open. As for what you said, I believe that what we do accurately reflects who we are at any given moment. Acknowledging that people can and do change is what gives us the grace to live with imperfect people and our imperfect selves. JOIN US IN TOASTING YOUR FUTURE SUCCESS!

Happy Birthday jdub....

You may think you can change who you are. However, you can only change what you do. And what you do, does not exclusively reflect who you are.

It takes some of us longer to figure it out and that's okay

There is certainly a "normal" life path that says certain things must be achieved by certain age milestones, but the ones who become successful in the Universal sense are the ones who keep searching and pay attention to the surroundings. It is one thing to acknowledge the milestones as you pass them. It's another thing entirely to regret not achieving what the world says you should by the time you reach them. A person can become filthy rich, have lots of manservants, and have all the power in the world, but still have failed to achieve what he or she came down here to do, which makes the soul's journey down here for nought. Another person can fly quietly under the radar in a worldly sense, live an unremarkable life by the world's standards, but achieve what he or she came down here to learn and return to the Other Side at the appointed time a success. That's why I have begun rejecting the notion that "I" must be college-educated and achieve a certain dollar amount in the bank to consider myself a success. Now that I've found my true life's purpose, these things have fallen away. Yes, I want to contribute to my family's financial stability, but I am not a writer focused on making money from everything I write. I want to share my journey and make my articles a virtual roadmap to where I've been and where I want to go. If I make some money along the way, that works too. Thank you so much, kukku!

I don't mind getting a year older because I am still full of life and have people in my life I care about and who care about me. That's exactly how I feel about just having my 40th birthday last year--my life is just beginning. My wife bought me a bookmark that has a quote inscription by George Eliot: "It's never too late to be what you might have been." Teens, 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's, and beyond, it doesn't matter. If you still have breath in your lungs and a heart pumping blood, you can find expression for the song in your heart. Thanks for your comment and wishes! JOIN US IN TOASTING YOUR FUTURE SUCCESS!

I Just Remembered Something Napol.H. Said in "Think & Grow Rich"

'Most men don't fully achieve lasting success until between 40 and 60.' He might've worded it differently, but you get the idea. (Sure, a lot of your success will be built on things from 'when you were younger'--marriage, children, general career--but 'don't expect fruit before growing-season is through!') ---Join Us Professional Friends who GET MONEY for Echoing the Universe: 'Too Loud?' You have Just Begun....

There is a saying in a native language which when translated roughly means: The first 20 years of your life are consumed in the physical growth process, the next 20 years one accumulates "experience" in life...and after 40 Life starts.... - Using the software terminology "Trail period" gets over when you turn 40. The Real thing begins now! So Cheer up Jdubhub, Warranty Period Starts Now :-) Many Many Happy Returns of the Day ! Have a great start to the "Now" Life. (I dig Eckhart Tolle books) (I know i am late in wishing you.. but what the heck..i cannot be left out. The whole world is wishing the most adored person out here). How about making it compulsory for all the Xombies to "declare" their Bdays here Jeremy, so we all can get our share of adoration! - one day in a year :-) DO the Write Thing & Get Paid Here

Yep, colds bite--that's for sure

I have been focused on getting my immune system boosted and keeping it there. My son is doing part-time preschool and ends up coming home with who-knows-what in the way of germs, which I also pick up because I am around him all day. It's not nearly as bad as when I worked with the public in retail, but it is annoying. Of course, we don't have the cold, frozen stuff on the ground here on the coast in California, not like you have there anyway. In fact, out temperatures are in the mid-70's this week and I can keep the house opened up to keep fresh, healthy air circulating without turning all of us into Popsicles. View from the other side

Happy birthday, jdub! As someone who's been where you are, I can say that being on the other side of 41 ain't so bad (except that I've had a horrible cold all week and feel like a really old man right now). I agree that being in the "now" is the healthiest place to be. Since we can't really be anywhere else, we might as well make the best of today.
