Happy Children's Day - 14th November

Here is wishing all the kids a very "Happy Children's Day". Today, 14th of November is being celebrated as Children's day in India to remember fondly Chacha Nehru (Pdt. Jawaharlal Nehru)who was our first Prime Minister and was very fond of kids.

Children's DayChildren's Day

So how do you celebrate this day? Well, for one thing, the schools in India make this day special for all the kids by organizing some special functions in school. They will probably have a half-day at school so that they can come back home early and spend the rest of the day doing pretty much what they like.

This day is a wonderful opportunity for all the parents to spend some quality time with their kids. But, what about those poor kids who are orphaned or staying in foster homes? See if you can do something special for these kids too. Taking small gifts like used old toys, clothes, shoes, books etc can make a lot of difference to these kids. So, open out your hearts and donate generously today to the Children's institution that is near you.

There are several charitable NGO's that are helping the cause of Children like the CRY (Child Rights and You), and the Smile foundation in India.

You can make a huge difference to the life of a child by just donating one rupee. Check out these sites and read all about their work and how you can help online. Another way to help out is by adopting a child and funding its education all the way to college. Bring a ray of hope to a child's life today.

November 14 in USA National Adoption Day!

Wow, in US there is no National Children's Day. I think there should be; children have a tendency to be undervalued, and when it comes to states budgets underfunded. Here in the USA, November 14th is National Adoption Day, where children are formally adopted in the courts. Insteat of aborting the child, what better gift then giving him/her up for adoption. And if you can't conceive, instead of costly infertility treatments think about adopting an older foster child, or even an older child from India. By nephew was adopted by my brother. His wife had him in a previous relationship. At the age of 2 he was very happy to have a father. My parents were happy to finally have a grandchild, and I was glad to have a little nephew. He grew up to be a fine young man, too! For more information on adopting in the US see http://www.xomba.com/national_adoption_month

BBC Children in Need Day too

It's the BBC's Children in Need Day today. I've donated but I don't like watching. It's not that I weep because of the sad stories that I don't watch. It's the C list celebrities and dancing newscasters depserate to get back or break out. Perhaps I'm harsh and a tad cynical but it reminds me of a yearly bandwagon. Give us A list celebrities in embarrassing situations - that should do it! Hope things went well in India today and everywhere else on 20th November.

is being celebrated on the 20th Nov in the rest of the world. It is only in India that this day is celebrated on Nehru's birthday, that is 14th Nov, every year.
