With companies and industries lining up to get financial aid from the U.S. government, I guess it was inevitable that the adult entertainment industry would be seeking money from the Feds.

CNN reported the news of the adult entertainment bailout Wednesday, the day that two of the industry's heavyweights have said they will approach Congress for help. Those two figures are none other than Hustler publisher and adult entertainment legend Larry Flynt and Joe Francis, CEO of the Girls Gone Wild empire.

Flynt and Francis aren't looking for rolls of quarters to stick in those peek-a-boo machines, either: they are said to be seeking $5 billion for the adult entertainment industry!

DVD sales have been down for the industry over the last few years, and Web content isn't generating the bang for the buck (so to speak) that it used to, according to an article on the industry in The Atlantic. But the article also notes that a new firm called AdultVest, which claims to be the first hedge fund for the adult entertainment industry, supposedly has seen its assets bulge like ... well, you can use your imagination.

Francis and Flyn intend to make their pitch to Congress partly on patriotic grounds. Francis says, “the US government should actively support the adult industry's survival and growth, just as it feels the need to support any other industry cherished by the American people." (Hmmm, is this industry really "cherished"?)

Flynt makes comments along similar lines: "People are too depressed to be s*xually active," a statement from him reads. "This is very unhealthy as a nation. Americans can do without cars and such but they cannot do without s*x."

He continues: "With all this economic misery and people losing all that money, s*x is the farthest thing from their mind. It's time for congress to rejuvenate the s*xual appetite of America."

Let the rejuvenation begin, Larry!
