Hark! Spring Begins, Live webcam, the nearest other "place" is the Coldest Place on Earth

AMUNDSEN-SCOTT South Pole Station. Spring begins.

Vostok, the Coldest Place on Earth, is a few hundred miles north. From here, the horizon in every direction is north.

It will be a long while before it is completely dark, but in theory, it takes only about 32.5 hours for the Sun to set once its lower limb touches the horizon. The Sun sets on March 21 (this year) and the season of spring begins noving to the long night.

Certainly, the Sun moves north in the sky, and from the South Pole it is at first a bright glow moving around the horizon. Looking north, somewhere you will see the glow, like just after sunset, but it lasts for around 2 weeks. The end of Astronomical Twilight occurse when the Sun is finally 18 degrees below the horizon. The Moon will make appearances throughout the long night, full and as high in the sky as the Sun was during the the long day.

Note Temp and wind chill!
