Harsh: Kindergardener Voted Out of Class

A St. Lucie Florida kindergarden teacher certainly harshed the mellow of 5 year-old Alex Barton last week. Melissa Barton, the boy's mother, reported Morningside Elementary teacher Wendy Portillo compiled an in-class inventory about what classmates didn't like about 5-year-old Alex. The teacher then had the students vote, and Alex was voted out of the class by a 14-2 margin. Alex is described as a "special needs" student which, in his case, means he's being evaluated for Asperger's Syndrome -- an autism spectrum disorder often characterized by very high functioning in certain intellectual tasks. The disorder also tends to bring severe communication and social functioning problems.
