Health Insurer Dropped You? How To Reinstate Your Health Insurance

It's the letter that no one wants to receive. The letter from your health insurance coverage stating they have dropped you due to what they wrongfully perceive as a pre-existing medical condition. If you receive one of these 'dropped' letters from your health insurer, there are steps you can take to reinstate your health insurance.
The first things you want to do to reinstate your health insurance is appeal the decision. Every health insurer has an appeals process, call and ask the insurer's customer service representative how the appeals process works. Most health insurer's will require you to mail in a written plea for reinstatement of your health insurance. Then follow up your written plea with calls and visits to your health insurer's customer service representative.
Talk to your doctor about your health insurer's decision to drop you so he/she can provide written proof that you are not being treated for a pre-existing medical condition.
Call your state's insurance regulator for advice and help. Every state has a state insurance regulator with a consumer hotline that can offer you valuable information and resources for helping you reinstate your health insurance.
If you've tried the above steps and are not making progress in getting your health insurance reinstated, hire a health care advocate. Ask your doctor for a referral to a health care advocate who can help you resolve your health insurance case and get your health insurance reinstated. The assistance of a health care advocate will cost you, be sure to discuss fees upfront with the advocate.
Receiving an undeserved 'dropped' letter from your health insurer is not the end of the road for you, there are options to help you reinstate your health insurance coverage.
