The Heart of a Charmed One

The Heart of a Charmed One

OK, I admit it: “I am addicted to the television series, "Charmed.” I watched it from the beginning in 1998 to the end of production in 2006. I own all eight seasons on DVD and have watched those from season one, disc one to season eight, disc six several times. In fact, I am currently watching them again. I am on season six, disc two when the Magic School is discovered. Anyway, I first started watching the show for three reasons, Shannen Doherty, Alyssa Milano and witchcraft. Stop! Don’t click away from this article because I used the word witchcraft, please open your mind and read on.

I use to watch “Little House on the Prairie”, I loved the messages, the morals, the family love that the show brought into my life. Eventually, I learned to appreciate the people who portrayed the characters in the show. The art of acting, this show was the first one that I felt the characters portrayed were actually real people. I could feel the emotions of the characters, from the acting, through the dialogue, through the make-believe world of television; if they cried, I cried, if they laughed, I laughed, when they showed love, I felt love. Anyway, Shannen Doherty was on that show. She played Laura Ingalls niece by marriage to ‘Manly’ Wilder, Jenny. It was a short time on the show, but for some reason, I remembered her.

Alyssa Milano was that cute, smart mouth daughter of Tony Micelli (Tony Danza), Samantha aka: Sam on “Who’s the Boss.” I enjoyed her energy on the show and although it was all written for her, she always delivered the perfect line to make me laugh or smile.

Now, for the witchcraft, I had dabbled in it in high school with a couple friends, but after a while, I felt it was wrong. Not that witchcraft was wrong, but in the way my one friend was ‘using’ it. I started to feel very uncomfortable with it all, so I distanced myself from it. But, that did not stop my curiosity. I let it go, but would read whatever I could find about it and tried to learn more on my own, in secret. I learned that there was so much involved with witchcraft and that a person needed to be really careful, that I again decided to let it go. Then along comes this television series with my favorite two female actresses and a subject that has intrigued me for years. How could I not watch it?

CHarmed Pictures, Images and Photos

From the start, I was hooked, not because of the actresses or because of the witchcraft, but because of the messages; the teachings of right from wrong, the consequences of our actions, of family bonding and of the messages of love, hope and dreams. That is why, when I am feeling a bit ‘lost’ in my life, I watch Charmed again and again: To remember to not give in to the wickedness of reality, but to give myself up to the love of the universe, of the cosmic forces that want reality to be loving and not wicked, to the Spirit.

Oh my Gosh! The Waltons

"Good-night John-Boy" My sister had to watch them every week!! My dad hated the show and we would do the "good-night" ritual just to irritate him. With five kids and Mom joining in, it was hilarious. He knew he couldn't get mad, because it was all in fun, but to watch his face turn red holding his tongue was so funny. We all had a blast with that that one!! MJ - Sending happy thoughts and Smiles! Not all TV Series are Junk

Little House on the Prairie is still on in rerun syndication and I will stop in from time to time and watch it. Alyssa Milano's character, Pheobie, had the power of premonition and later, levitation and empath. I liked Pheobie the best. She was also an advise columnist. although she would wish for 'active powers' like Piper who could blow things up and stop time or Prue who had mental telepathy and astroprojection and later Paige, who was half White Lighter and could orb and also mental telepathy, I think her powers provided the best 'life lessons'. Little House on the Prarie...

Watch it over and over and all the reruns. Loved Michael Landon in it and all the other actors. So sorry to see it end but by that time everyone had 'grown up'. I never watched "charmed" so cant comment on it but did enjoy the actresses in other parts. Thanks for the article. Alway enjoy reading what you post. +1 For more articles by this author click here

Charmed Ladies

I didn't know who Holly Marie Combs was when the series started. She did prove herself to be worthy of the "charmed life" though. I had read somewhere that Shannen was asked to do the show and she requested that her friend, Holly do it too. Again, I didn't know Rose McGowan, she didn't look familiar and I surely didn't know her name. She eventually grew on me, but after Shannen left, I would say it was Alyssa and Holly who I enjoyed the most. I'm sorry, but the breathless sigh at the end of Rose's sentences, just drove me crazy. She eventually got over that, I'm glad to say. MJ - Sending happy thoughts and Smiles! Avatar: Betrayal and Retribution http://www.valkyrieart.com/Poser1.html

Holly Marie Combs was my favorite

I didn't watch the show consistently, but I did watch it off and on over the course of its series run. Holly Marie Combs as Piper was always my favorite of the four actresses. Alyssa Milano was always Tony Danza's little girl to me, Shannen Doherty was 90210 for me, and Rose McGowan was Marilyn Manson's ex for me. I know she was on other shows, most notably Picket Fences, before Charmed, but watching her didn't make me think of other gigs. CLICK HERE TO JOIN XOMBA TODAY!
