The Hebrew Blessing of the Mezuzah

The Hebrew Blessing of the Mezuzah

I love Hebrew tradition, which is very beautiful and relevant even today. I have often studied the Torah and am still learning.

The Mezuzah has spiritual powers and energies.
The Mezuzah is one of the ancient Jewish traditions. It is an expression of that household†s devotion to God.

Deuteronomy 6:4-9 and 11:13-21 which gave commandment to: “You shall write them upon the doorposts of your home and your gates”. These passages are the first two portions of the Shema prayer, and confirm God's existence and authority.

The Torah commands us that we should live our lives in such a way that bind us to God. Thus, we should meditate on and discuss the Torah day and night.

The Mezuzah comes in many designs and colors and usually has a portion of scripture from the Torah inside. My husband and I are Christians, but are getting one this year, to express a new commitment to God.

Every Mezuzah is marked with the Hebrew letter shin. This symbolizes the first letter of the word Shaddai with means Almighty.

Inside each case, there is a small scroll with two scriptures in it from Deuteronomy, which begin with, "Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one."

You can purchase a Mezuzah at synagogue or on line. It is best to purchase a kosher Mezuzah bless by a Rabbi Even some high-end Christian bookstores sell them. Once you get your mezuzah, place it on the right side of your doorpost around shoulder height so that everyone entering can see it.

Tradition says that any Jew can pronounce a blessing as long as they know the importance of the mitzvah. You can affix your Mezuzah with nails or screws, once the blessing is pronounced.

Now, you have a physical reminder that as you enter and exit you home, God is with us and our home is worthy of God's protection.

@2besure Yes you can...

If you like it, give it a +1. If you have something to add, comment or if you just want to say, "I Like this", comment it. The thing you must not do is click on your friends ads. As a member, you are not allowed to click on ads, only guests can do that. I am pretty much new to Xomba myself, but I love it here. The people are great, encouraging, and friendly. Oh yeah, and they are not afraid to disagree either, but in respectful ways. This is a PG site, maybe even a G site and that is strickly watched. Which I for one am very happy for. It is nice to know that there are people who can disagree in full sentences without swear words!! WooHoo...Oh happy days! I dare ya...c'mon you know you want to...Smile! MJ

2besure I am smiling MJ! Thanks so much for taking time to comment on my article. I am very encouraged. I just joined xomba two days a go. Question. Is it ok to read and rate your friends articles and for them to do the same for you. I don't know how that works?

So that is what it is!

I have seen these at one of our customer's home, but wondered what they were. I know they follow the Jewish faith, and with your article, now I know it is a mezuzah!! They have them on each bedroom doorframe. I thought they were pretty even though I had no clue what they were. Thanks for the lesson! I dare ya...c'mon you know you want to...Smile! MJ
