Senior Year part 2 (preview)

No one is present at the Doctor’s office other than the receptionist, Jill who is engrossed in the morning paper and a cup of her favorite Earl Grey tea. The smell of the tea fills the air and everything looks perfect. A clock on the wall reads 6:30am.
Danique still fuming from the car ride over opens and comes through the door. She walks toward Jill and a smile grows on her face. While Danique dreads and despises the good doctor, she looks forward to seeing Jill. Jill is almost everything Danique wants to be – elegant, beautiful, funny and smart. The only thing she lacks in Danique’s opinion is success. “But, success is different for different people” she almost always adds.
Jill is still enveloped in the news of the day as she greets her first patient of the day.
“Good morning, Sunshine.”
Now Danique’s smile lights up her face.
“Hi, Jill. How’s it going?”
“Alright. The bossman is in a mood. Hopefully, he’ll leave me alone and drink ‘til he passes out.”
Jill decides at last to see the girl she is addressing and is a little taken aback by what she sees.
“ Hey… you changed your hair. It looks great. What I would give to have your looks. Everything about you looks great. Such a shame - I could do so much more damage than you.”
Danique can feel not only her face turning red but also her entire body. Jill always talks to her in this way and it always has the same effect on Danique – deep embarrassment especially since it is coming from someone as lovely as Jill.
“Thank you – as always, you are too kind. What do mean you could do more damage than me?”
“Your problem is you’re too sweet. I have a little bit more knowledge than you, if you know what I mean. Knowledge can be a powerful thing – in the wrong hands a bad thing. Trust me – I would do some very bad things.”
“How do you know I don’t do bad things??”
“I have access to your file.”
“I see how you are – a peeping Tom type.”
“Never can have too much info on someone. I need to know if you’re going to come thru that door one day and kill us all. That way I can conveniently call in sick on that day.”
“So, since you’re here there must not be anything very interesting in my file.”
“Not yet…there’s always time.”
“Any pointers on being bad?”
“Get yourself a man then, we’ll talk.”
Danique’s smile suddenly vanishes at the thought of her next statement.
“Is the jackass able to see me?”
“Girl, this is your lucky day. The hour is early so he is not yet fully intoxicated – Plus, he had no hangover today. Go on in he is actually expecting you.”
“That doesn’t seem right - him not drunk and all. I won’t know how to behave. Wish me luck.”
“Good luck.”
Jill watches her disappear behind the door then, shakes her head. She knows what is about to happen behind that door and there is nothing she can do about it. Jill is not quite sure she is going to be able to handle what, in her mind, will be the after shocks.
“Damn shame” Jill mutters to herself.
She returns to the paper she was reading. She flips to the business section and throws away the rest of the paper. The headline on the Front Page reads “3rd in 3 Weeks”.
