Helping the homeless
posted October 15, 2009 - 1:05pmTwo weeks ago, after reading an article in the local newspaper in Silicon Valley, California, two couples decided to each donate $100,000 to a homeless shelter which was in danger of closing about half of its emergency beds. The donations will insure that all 250 of the beds will remain open for the winter. They are hoping other people in the area will donate, taking from their example.
This was a very kind and unselfish act on both couples part, one which I would also provide if I were in a position to do so financially. I have always been looking for a great way to help others. Among all the stories of despair and hopelessness on the internet and television there are some wonderful stories of kindness and hope.
The only question this raises for me, is "does the money that you give to someone holding a cardboard sign really go to a useful purpose?"

I don't think about it too
I don't think about it too much, I just give a dollar or my change. I haven't had much to give for some time now. For me it serves two purposes, it shows the receiver that I care and recognize them and their need instead of ignoring them. I can't help thinking that it could be me someday.
