Heroin Addiction and Legalization

Heroin Addiction and Legalization

Heroin addiction causes millions of people all over the world to drop out of society only to be considered as second-class citizens.

What can be done to minimize the problems associated with heroin addiction? Personally I think legalization is the only option as prohibition has been proven to cause more problems than it solves. We need to accept that this problem is not going away and deal with it openly as a health issue rather than a criminal issue. What do you think?.

Legalise All Drugs

All drugs should be legalised but this need not prevent other measures aimed at the causes of addiction. Other benefits (in addition to the substantial reduction of petty crime and treating addicts well) could result by taxing the middle class recreational users.

Prescription Heroin

I agree that the underlying issues needs to dealt with by preventive measures, but the problem is that heroin is already widely available. Therefore making it regulated like any other prescription drug and treating the addiction as a health problem would to some extent solve many of the problems associated with the drug. It's not a perfect solution but I think it's the least bad solution with regards to human dignity and reducing overall crime related to heroin addiction. It would also make the black market less lucrative.

People aren't born with a needle in their arm

While I am a proponent of legalization for some drugs (cannabis, for example), the harder drugs should not be IMHO. There is a reason people become addicted to narcotics and it is by addressing those underlying reasons that will help individuals overcome addiction. True, the current punitive road on which we are traveling is not working, but making a known addictive narcotic which is a real mother to detox from should not be made widely available. From a Universal standpoint (read: Law of Attraction), the worst thing governments ever did for mankind is declare "war" on drugs. Since the Universe does not register negatives, every single instance of "war" on drugs only increased the energy which drugs had in the minds of the public and increased addiction. Others mileage may vary. CLICK HERE TO JOIN XOMBA TODAY!
