The glycemic index is a new way of looking at carbohydrates. Although low carb diets are still popular, but your body need carbohydratesas they are the main source of energy. Carbohydrates are made of sugars and the glycemic index is a measure of how quickly a certain food makes your blood sugar rise. Low glycemic index foods are better than high ones. High glycemic index foods are potatoes, white rice and bread. Low glycemic index foods are beans and oats. So for your next meal make sure you don't eat too much white rice, white bread or white pasta. Change white to brown instead. Eat wheat bread, wheat pasta and brown rice. And eat lots of fruits and vegetables.
