History of Film Music

The history and development of film music is an interesting subject. At first, film scores provided the complete sound for entire silent films. These films were only silent in that they had no recorded natural sound. Usually, a piano player would provide the musical acompanyment, sometimes they would even have a live piano player playing along with a film in a theater.

Film music has continued to develop into orchestral music and the mixture of styles that you hear today. Now, electronic music is making its way into film scores and more and more styles are becoming accepted parts of the film music genre. Composers will keep developing and its interesting to think about what exiting changed in film music are still coming.
