"History smiled, and so did America"
posted June 8, 2008 - 2:21amThe author of this piece is 20 years old. He speaks about how far our people have come in breaking the racial-divide, in our ability to have overcome, by judging people based on their achievements, rather than color.
He speaks of the encouragement his parents gave him (and other siblings), about what hard work, getting an education, and being in the right places can deliver to a person, in the United States, regardless of race.
And, he further states the thought that his parents may not have believed that statement, but, they propagated hope to their children, and, hope to themselves, in a future-tense, that America would, one-day become a nation of equal rights.
All these thoughts, and, hopes, and, ideas, and visions, combined on June 3, 2008, when Barack Obama became the Democratic candidate for President.
This is a very touching article, and, one worth reading, directly from the mouth of a person who is a member of a generation who will have to take the crumbs left by the baby-boomers, and forge a new America onto the frontier of the 21st Century...They have the unrealized task of creating a world that will work for all. They need as much support, as possible!
