Home Is Where The Feet Are...?

Home Is Where The Feet Are...?

Travel..probably my greatest passion aside from passion itself! haha.
I crave stories that take a different approach to life, have different meanings and ideas that aren't so everyday.
I haven't felt overly inspired in a while..until I was refered to a website.."The Longest Way Home".

This website made me question things...life, passion, meaning, and the definition of home.
I learnt that there is a 33 year old guy, who has a goal of "finding a home." In order to find "home" he has traveled to many places, around the world, in search of a place that he felt would make a good home for him. During his continuous search, he's had jobs overseas, and tries to develop a way of life in each new country. He's been all around...India, Pakistan, China, Poland,Slovakia, Iran, Nepal, Africa, etc. and is currently living in the Phillipeans.

I think the questions that came to my mind all have a lot in common. You can answer them in so many ways. Home could be where you are at the moment physically, it can be where your heart is, it can be a house you own, it can be the apartment you rent, the hostel you stay in, it can be a city, a country, the whole world, your body! When I think of "home" I automatically feel with my heart and say LONDON, even though I'm not physically there. I think that definition is pretty average..?? I can't help but question though, whether home is a feeling, or something physical?

Home is the place you belong. Your safe place. A place you can feel vibrant, free to be yourself, full of life, full of love, and meet everything that matters to you.
Maybe you build a home in your heart from every place you stay.
Even though I feel home is London, I get a homesick feeling for every place I've spent a period of time in. Over the past couple of years I've done a fair chunk of traveling myself, and working overseas. When I think back to my Australia life, or Asia backpacker life I get that weird stab of homesickness, and I'm sure the same will happen once I finish my job teaching here in China, even though I'm always excited to move forward in life.

Life...well, I should say the "norms" of life arise as a question in my mind often. I believe the norms are being stretched wider and wider as mine and the younger generation grows. More people travel, lots of people are into alternative lifestyles, yet there is still that "social norm". A certain age comes around, it's typical to begin a career, get married, start a family of your own. Being 24, I can't help but question myself sometimes, how weird am I that I haven't settled down what-so-ever yet? Is it crazy that I have about 1000 things I want to do? Not in one place, or in one career?
Reading about this fellow travelers' life, makes me want to continue my own pursuit of dreams...and never settle for less than that. Why should anybody? (In no way am I saying it's settling for less if you choose to begin a career, it's just a more common goal I guess..) I wonder how many people doubted his goals, or if he ever feels a little crazy for not settling down. I wonder how many people he has inspired. How many people, like myself, have read his blogs and stories and were encouraged to follow a dream.

I plan on writing more about my own travel stories, my thoughts during my travels and life to now...
As I have a passion for travel, I have a passion for writing, for documenting my own personal experiences..what I witness, and what I feel at different points and places in my life. Everything is interpreted differently through different eyes. As getting an education is important, forming your own feelings and views on the world and life are too.

At this point of my life, I believe following your heart and dreams, is the most important thing you can do. Whether it be a career choice, in a relationship,or a lifestyle decision.
There really is no such thing as failure or a wrong choice unless you decide it is one.Everywhere your heart leads you, every dream you follow, whether the end result is what you hoped for or not, it is sure to teach you a valuable life lesson-as long as you are open to receiving it.
I'll close this with a couple of my favourite quotes, and the links to a couple great sites.

"You are never given a wish without being given the power to make it true..."

"Argue for your limitations and sure enough, they're yours.."

I strongly encourage anyone to check out this website :

A little more inspiration......? Check out this travelers site. His original goal was to WALK across China, all the way up into Germany...
He ended up walking from Beijing to Urumqi, China, which took nearly a whole year...what a way to go for a dream! Also must have been an amazing way to see and get a feel for a country!!!http://www.thelongestway.com/
