Hopefully General Motors is Serious About Going Small in Introducing the BEAT to the US Market
Apparently General Motors is "considering" introducing a new Chevrolet mini car -- the Beat -- to the US market. To become competitive with smaller Asian imports (the Honda Fit and Toyota Yaris among others), GM must rework its lineup to rely less on SUV's and trucks and more on high mileage cars.
With the addition of the plug-in hybrid Volt and the high-mileage Beat to GM's existing Aveo, I am pleased to see that GM is realizing the new reality where customers are selecting more fuel efficient transportation options.
Chrysler (and to a lesser extent, Ford), on the other hand, just don't seem to get it.

Clueless Motors
Europe has had higher fuel standards than the U.S. for years... you'd think the American automakers would focus on better fuel economy if they ever want to sell any vehicles in the rest of the world. Now they have to play catch-up to sell what consumers want in their own country.
You can never accuse U.S. carmakers of being ahead of the curve.
