The House GOP Health Plan (230 PAGES): Yahoo!

The title of a recently released Yahoo! article is "House GOP pens 230-page health bill". OK, are we gonna hear some new ideas or the same old stuff?

The first 2 sentences tell us a lot: "After months spent CRITICIZING Democrats' overhaul plans < em>(hey, this is what Republicans do), House Republicans have produced a draft proposal of their own. It's much shorter and focuses on bringing down costs rather than extending coverage to NEARLY all Americans" which, again, is unjustifiable, because how can we deny chronically ill patients the right to seek medical treatment and improve the quality of their lives? Again, Republicans are OBSESSED with costs.

According to Antonia Ferrier, a spokeswoman for House Minority Leader John Boehner, "As LEADER Boehner (Boehner is only the Republican leader; he is not the "Leader") said, our proposal will focus on the No. 1 concern of the American people - REDUCING HEALTH CARE COSTS and we do it at a price tag our nation can afford", but then, they didn't quantify this which makes their claim invalid. "Our proposal will help struggling, middle-class families and small businesses by increasing access to high-quality, AFFORDABLE (?) healthcare" without knowing how much this is gonna cost? Republicans are saying that their plan will be "affordable". How can they claim this IF THEY DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH THIS IS GONNA COST? This must be some kind of jokeAlso, this seems like old news that we've heard before which would imply that the Republicans spent 230 pages JUST TALKING ABOUT OLD STUFF OR NOTHING AT ALL.

House Democrats immediately hit back with House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer saying that the GOP plan "DOES LITTLE to provide security and stability to ALL Americans (of course, people with good health insurance are fine; what about those millions of Americans who are uninsured?), doesn't provide availability for ALL Americans (with the system that's in place now, the only people who have health insurance are the people who can pay for it through the private sector, again leaving MILLIONS uninsured) (and) DOES LITTLE TO EXPAND ACCESS TO COVERAGE", next to nothing, actually. "OURS IS FAR SUPERIOR and WE THINK (sure is much more appropriate) the American people will think that. I'm CONFIDENT OF PREVAILING and I'M CONFIDENT of prevailing BEFORE VETERANS' DAY". This is yet another bold prediction by the Democrats. Again, we are wondering: CAN THEY DO IT THIS TIME? Veterans' Day is next week (November 11)."I'M CONFIDENT that we're going to pass this bill". We can only hope that this is the case (i.e. that a bill with a public option will be passed) and even then, there will have to be a compromise with the Senate, WHERE THINGS ARE AN ABSOLUTE MESS. Again, as we have seen so many times, Democrats and Republicans ARE REALLY GOING AFTER EACH OTHER ON THIS CRITICAL ISSUE.
