Microsoft Internet Explorer (version 5.0 or higher) includes a popular way for you to create a Web query in Microsoft Excel (version 2000 or higher) from within Internet Explorer (IE) using the right-click menu option “Export to Microsoft Excel”. In the event that it might be missing from the right-click context menu, this articles describes how to add "Export to Microsoft Excel" to Internet Explorer. Please note that the methods offered herein pertain to Microsoft Internet Explorer version 7 (IE7) and Microsoft Office Excel versions 2003 and 2007.

Instructions

STEP 1 - There are two popular ways to add the "Export to Microsoft Excel" option to the right click menu in Internet Explorer: Manual registry changes and automated registry changes. This article describes how to make MANUAL REGISTRY CHANGES.

Run Regedit.exe

STEP 2 - MANUAL REGISTRY CHANGES

Navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Internet Explorer \ MenuExt

STEP 3 - Manual Registry Changes (cont.)

Create a subkey under MenuExt and name it: Export to Microsoft Excel

Help: Right click MenuExt, select New, select Key and name it "Export to Microsoft Excel" without the quotes.

STEP 4 - Manual Registry Changes (cont.)

With the new subkey highlighted, double click (default) in the right hand window pane, and set its "Value data" as follows:

For Excel 2003 (OFFICE11)

res://C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\EXCEL.EXE/3000

For Excel 2007 (OFFICE12)

res://C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE12\EXCEL.EXE/3000

STEP 5 - Manual Registry Changes (cont.)

Exit the Registry Editor.

STEP 6 - TESTING THE REGISTRY CHANGES

Open Internet Explorer and browse a Web page containing tabular data. Right click on the table and choose "Export to Microsoft Excel". Select one or more
tables by clicking the arrows adjacent to each table.

Tips and Warnings

Backup your system before attempting these methods.

APPLIES TO: Microsoft Internet Explorer version 7 (IE7) and Microsoft Office Excel versions 2003 and 2007. Microsoft Windows XP or VISTA and Administrator access required.
