Diversity Visa lottery program is one of the greatest immigrant visa issuing program by the government of United States. The US government issues upto 50,000 immigrant visas each year to residents of the countries which qualify for certain quotas. If a country has sent more immigrants to the United States in a particular year than the set amount of quota for that country, it does not qualify for the Diversity Visa program for that year. The Department of State has issued the names of the countries which qualify for the Diversity Visa lottery program on its website (http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_1322.html). The list changes every year depending on the immigration influx from different countries. This year's list did not change from the last year. If your country is in the list of qualified countries you can apply online at the Department of State's website instantly.

The submission should be made between noon October 2nd, 2009 to noon November 30th, 2009. The registration form online will be available only this open period.

The person applying should be at least a high school graduate or have a degree of its equivalent. If he does not have these qualifications then within the last five years he should have two years of experience in a field or occupation requiring two years of training or experience.

You also need a digital photograph with a specific criteria listed on the website. The application asks you your basic biographical information. If your application is selected you will be notified between May and July of 2010. The others will not be contacted. The status of application will also be available online.
