How to Buy Carinsurance

If you are searching for new carinsurance, a few easy steps will save you big money.

Determine your state's carinsurance requirements. Different states have different requirements. You can always choose to carry more insurance, but carrying less than the state requires will land you in hot water in the event of an accident or other incident.

Consider whether your personal comfort level requires you to buy more than the minimum required by the state. Extra premiums are generally cheaper than a large single accident repair. In particular, they might be easier to pay, since they will be spread over a longer period of time.

Know the status of your driving record Are there any tickets or violations that will increase the cost of your premiums? Previous hits to your driving record can have a substantial impact on the cost of your carinsurance. Make sure you know what’s out there.

Check your current coverage to find out how much you are paying in premiums for your current carinsurance. You need to know what prices you are going to try to beat.

Get competing quotes from a couple of the many Internet carinsurance web sites. Find sites that let you compare multiple carriers at the same time, to help you speed things up.

Make phone calls to carinsurance company sales lines to make sure you have all needed information about coverage, including restrictions and limitations.

Ask about discounts you might qualify for such as a safe driving record or age or multiple car discounts.

Verify the reliability of the insurance company you are considering buying coverage from by checking its references and with the Better Business Bureau.

If you have chosen a new carinsurance company, remember to cancel your old policy. Then ask them for a refund for the unused portion.
