How Can Anyone Believe in Obama?

How Can Anyone Believe in Obama?

I don't understand how people can buy into Obama's touted economic plans. I will admit, I am an exceptionally free-market, capitalistic minded individual, but I still feel that Obama's plans go against the grain of general American ethos.

I don't want to harp on the WSJ article that seems to be getting so much attention today. I think the article was fairly biased in opinion, but it had some good points none the less. The idea of Taxing some people more, and some people less is just inherently flawed. It always has been.

Why should "wealthy" pay four times more than "poor"? And those two terms just drive me crazy, being very apt to statistics. I mean, how do you even define wealth versus poverty? Where are the begining and end points.

I know its not a favorite topic around here, but to tax one industry higher than another (oil) seems equally as absurd. Fort that I will rely only a quote from Foreign Policy magazine:
"He’s (Obama) attacking the symptom, not the disease. It’s certainly hard to defend oil companies making record profits while consumers are struggling to fill their tanks, but Big Oil has very little control over day-to-day gas prices, which are set by global supply and demand and, of course, OPEC. By discouraging oil companies from making big profits, such a tax could potentially discourage them from making investments in new refineries and finding new oil sources, resulting in fewer jobs and even higher prices at the pump. Jimmy Carter tried this in 1980, and it only increased U.S. dependence on foreign oil. Singling out one particular industry for punishment because it is politically unpopular doesn’t make much economic sense, either.

And health care? That also may be a case of attacking the symptom and not the disease. It would be a costly Large Government affair to provide health care for the masses. What we need to do is keep insurance costs down, limit law suits, and let the market handle it. Our national health care costs are out of control, and un-affordable to most. It wasn't always like that.
