how to destroy the middle class pt2
posted March 7, 2009 - 8:12pmWhat are some other ways to destroy the middle class of America? How about raising the capital gains taxes. They aren’t just connected to beg business. Many Americans demonize the rich business owners and executives. Americans have been told over and over by media how terrible they are making all that money. Many Americans have pensions and 401k’s with these companies. Why would anyone reinvest money in their company if it’s going to get taxed more than it already is? By increasing taxes on growth, where is the initiative to grow? How can we expect a company to hire more people, (grow), and increase production and therefore profit that will be taxed if the capital gains are hit harder than they already are. Not only is the government losing what taxes they would have made, they are also losing payroll and social security taxes on the employee’s that didn’t get hired.
How about welfare reform? Under the current plan, 70% of the recipients must work 40 hours a week in a job or in job preparation. Millions of people took themselves off of welfare and brought dignity to themselves. Recipients were given an incentive to work. The new plan that Obama is working on will give them incentives to remain on welfare. With an increase in welfare insurance to the states and an increase in food stamps won’t help people get off and stay off of welfare. Under Obama’s plan there is no requirement that tells the recipient that they must accept work that is available to them. If they are offered a job, they aren’t required to take it. They are allowed to stay on the taxpayers dole.
Taxes on emissions of carbon dioxide production. This will be the largest hit to the American economy we have seen. Man made global warming, the most hotly contested theory, is the wealth redistributors golden goose egg. This is a blessing to those who wish to scare the American public into doing just about whatever they want without any questions asked. Has anyone noticed the weather records that have been broken lately? They aren’t record breaking heat waves, they are record low temps, record snowfall and snow in areas of the world that haven’t seen snow in decades. CO2 is less than 1% of the earth’s atmosphere and it is plant food, not a pollutant.
Cap and Trade as it’s called does nothing to reduce carbon emissions at all. In a nut shell here is what happens. Country A is an industrial country and Country B is much less industrialized. Both countries are given nearly the same amount of “Carbon Credits”. These directly correlate to how many tons of CO2 each country is allowed to emit as a by-product of production. Country A since it is an industrialized country uses up their “Carbon Credits” before the end of the year. Country B the less industrialized of the two knows that it will not use all of their “Carbon Credits” by the years end. Country A is allowed to buy the extra “Carbon Credits” from Country B. As a result of this transaction, wealth has been transferred from Country A to Country B. There has been absolutely no reduction in CO2 emissions by Country A. As a result of the added cost to production of Country A, any products that the people of Country A will pay the cost in higher prices. The unfortunate thing is the increases will be in products of necessity like energy costs. These are costs that are going to hurt those with the least amount of excess cash to pay for it.
This could be avoided were it not for the environmentalist groups who on one hand don’t want us dependant on foreign oil, yet do all they can over here to make sure our oil and gas reserves are off limits to us. America has not built a new refinery in over 30 years because of EPA regulations and environmentalist law suits. 20 years ago they wouldn’t approve it because, “it will take 10 years to make a difference”. Well, we could have been using our own oil 10 years ago and still using it today. We have all seen what $4.00 a gallon gasoline did to middle class America’s family budgets. Environmentalists want to spend billions on “renewable energy”. That’s fine, but who is already set up for research? Most oil companies are more than able to do the research and they have the money to do it. Why do you think all of these oil companies have had these “Windfall Profits” the last couple years? People aren’t allowing them to spend their profits on R&D which would lead to better sources of energy. Taking a food source and using it as a fuel source that is forced onto the market increased the cost of food for Americans.
Every time government tries to micro manage something in the free market system or adds some inane regulation, the cost of production on that product or service goes up. When you put a dam in a river, the water gets backed up or slowed down, just like the free market economy when you put in unnatural regulations. The best regulation is competition. The more people who want a product, the higher the cost of getting that product. The lower the demand the lower the cost. Simple. Government stepped in and made home loans artificially affordable to people who really had little chance of staying current, especially with interest only and balloon rates. This flushed the housing market with buyers. What happened then is people who had houses for sale started taking advantage of the flush of buyers. Buyers had new money and decided that they would pay more to get the “house of their dreams” so that nobody else could get it. Even if what they paid was more than the house was worth in a realistic market. Housing prices were artificially raised courtesy of government regulation. Eventually, interest and payments that ballooned caught up with these people and now they’re defaulting on their loans. Don’t blame the lenders and call them predatory, truth is it was government. Look at home values now, next to retirement and 401k’s, the house was middle class America’s largest entry in the net worth department. Too many people are now in trouble because of this and because of the incessant cries of woe by the press. The cries of bank insolvency and the like spread panic among the masses who were so paralyzed by hype that they couldn’t see what was being done to them. Big government’s worst nightmare is a large wealthy middle class and they know it. Why do you think that Obama wants to do away with the school voucher program in D.C.? Because it is working. 1900 students have already successfully taken advantage of the program to get out of the failed public school system. That means better education for the lower income children, the ability to succeed and become wealthy.
Government makes more on a gallon of gas than the oil company themselves. How much tax is on a pack of cigarettes? How many frivolous law suits are settled by tobacco companies? Aren’t these taxes on cigarettes supposed to be put towards health care programs? People, the number of different taxes that American’s pay on a daily basis and don’t realize it is troubling. If we were responsible for paying our own taxes each week, once we saw what we are paying and to whom there would be a revolt for sure. Since they are automatically taken out, it’s more of an “out of sight out of mind” deal and we haven’t a clue. If you can control the money you can control the masses.
