How Do I Distinguish Ego from Spirit

How Do I Distinguish Ego from Spirit

I have been on a quest for the last month to find how do I get closer to my spirit self? You see, one day I bought this pack of cards called The Answer is Simple Oracle Cards and what you do is shuffle the deck, fan them out and pick a card. They come with a book of explanation for each card and after picking your card, you read the definition and then are to meditate or ponder the meaning through the day. I thought, at the time of purchasing them that 1. I would use them for ideas for articles and 2. Maybe they would help me figure out how to get closer to my finding my balance.

Well, I picked a card in the mornings for about a week and then decided to pick a card each night before bed, thinking that I would allow my unconscious mind to meditate on it. However, each time I picked a card, it always had something to do with the ego, “Let go of the ego” they all referenced. I could not figure out where I was holding on so tight to my ego that my spirit was being blocked. I quit using the Oracle Cards for about two weeks and just watched myself, trying to figure out where my ego was getting in the way. No answers were forthcoming.

Then one day, I read this article on ezineArticles and went to the authors website. Of course this didn’t have anything to do with my ego, but it was interesting and it had a link to another website. What is Mataphysics. Now this website piqued my interest because I have seen Rycharde Manne reference this word, but didn’t really know what it was. So I started reading. Then I came upon an article on meditation using sound waves and it explained the different levels of consciousness or brain wave patterns. It wasn’t until I got to the 6th page of this 7-page PDF file that I knew this is what I had been looking for. Holosync Solution
“… your ego, your collection of beliefs about who you are, what your place is in the world…” Finally, something that tells me another side of the ego, not just about pride!

Further searching on the web enabled me to find other explanations of the ego. The ego is also a defense attribute. It protects our spirit from being hurt by others, but it can sometimes overprotect. When the ego overprotects, we lose touch with our spirit, the inner self and allow our minds, our conscious state of mind direct us. It is at this time that we hear the inner voice, (spirit) but hush it. Our ego remembers our experiences in life and feeds the spirit information on those with positive or negative feedback. However, sometimes the ego goes overboard and instills too much negative information to situations and this is where we get the feelings of “I’m not good enough”, “I’m not deserving”, I’m too fat” and “no one will ever love me.” Things like that, those negative emotions. In order to protect our spirit, the ego will repeat these negatives to us until we actually believe it. To counter-act the ego, we must first hush it or let go of the hold it has on us and start listening and paying attention to our spirit. We can do this through meditation and using affirmations such as, “I deserve good things”, “I am lovable”, and “I am beautiful”. To me this all seems a bit silly and honestly, I feel silly doing it, but I also learned, this is my ego fighting to stay in control. Creating this sort of embarrassment of affirmations to stop me from letting go of the past pains and beliefs of my self, allowing for the possibility of getting hurt again. However, by letting go of the ego control, I have the ability to also experience more abundant ‘good’ things, because the fear of the ego to try will be hushed. The ego says, “No, don’t do that” the Spirit says, “All things are possible.” Click… Ah Ha!

Cut from Full-time to Part-time

I'm working on cutting my ego employment from full-time to part-time. It's a bit slow going, but eventually the workload will be lightened. MJ - Sending happy thoughts and Smiles! Avatar: Betrayal and Retribution http://www.valkyrieart.com/Poser1.html

Ignore Hormones and Insanity

I'm sold! lol Thanks for the links. I'll check them out in the next day or so. MJ - Sending happy thoughts and Smiles! Avatar: Betrayal and Retribution http://www.valkyrieart.com/Poser1.html

What are you using to get

What are you using to get such horrible techno? mmm... OK, even 4Hz is 240 bpm, which is fast techno!! I can't find my old post... probably a figment of my imagination... so will post a new one. Go here http://www.bwgen.com/index.htm and also worth reading this http://www.xomba.com/brainwave_frequency_listing_long_list_biological_and_natural_physical_frequencies If you're going to mess with your head you'll need to know what different frequencies correspond to different mental states. Also remember that we are all different so you may need to experiment to find the "sweet spot" within a range. I used to use it before going to teach. Was great... I could ignore the hormones and the insanity for a few hours and be clear and focussed on my own students. I got my physics students into it but figured there was probably some law against training students to be self-aware. Join Xomba Here

Birds can Dream?

I did not know that. Do they call it "sleep tweets"? : ) How interesting though. I looked for some downloads so I could here what I was reading about, but what I found was horrible (at least to me). High pitched and really fast techno. Hurt my eardrums. Maybe it is the search terms I used. Yep, used your term and bam... lots to choose from. Thanks! Haven't really gotten into the dream stuff, but do enjoy learning about the Chakras and colors. I read a lot, then suffer brain overload and have to take a break. Then start reading again. Thank you for the comments and other guidance. MJ - Sending happy thoughts and Smiles! Avatar: Betrayal and Retribution http://www.valkyrieart.com/Poser1.html

Aha Moments

'Aha" Moments: They are amazing aren't they jdubhub? I also took some of your advise a while back and now carry a small spiral pad and pencil with me in my purse. When I have a thought that I feel needs more thought or expansion, but don't have the time at that moment, I write it down or at least something that will trigger my brain later. Thanks for that one! It has really helped with the mind clutter and I am able to focus better on the moment. MJ - Sending happy thoughts and Smiles! I'm currently reading The

I'm currently reading The Mind at Night by Andrea Rock, the science of dreams. Should have it finished by tomorrow and may write a bit about it. One very striking thing about dream neuroscience is how little control the individual has over anything internal. Perhaps that's why our culture has an obsession with trying to control external things. "Control" is just the wrong word... awareness of what's going on is the first step. Sadly, our deeper brain structures are almost mockingly primordial compared to newer higher level functions. Amazingly, birds can dream - who'd have guessed with a brain the size of a pea! Apparently they practise their birdsong... I wish my cockerel would dream more often! :-/ I wrote on mind entrainment before and the biaural beats. You can download free software and use it on your PC. It's meditation without learning to meditate... you just need to experiment a bit to find your individual frequencies. Glad to hear about your quest. Join Xomba Here

Learning to let go is the first step

What works for me with the journaling is that I can ask myself "What I am trying to hold on to?" when something interferes with my being in the present moment. Often, as you said so eloquently, our egos are holding onto what was and used to be to "protect" us from being "hurt" again. Once we let go of the past--no easy feat--we can be free to affect change in the ONLY time we have control over: this present moment right here right now. I am truly happy for you and your voyage of self-discovery, MJ. As a fellow traveler on the path, I know what it is like to read something, meditate on it, and have those "Aha!" moments. It helps put everything else in perspective. Great article and I look forward to reading more about your journey. :) CLICK HERE TO JOIN XOMBA TODAY!
