How to Do A Football Tackle

After watching a few football games recently I have noticed that there seems to be alot of players that are trying to strip the ball instead of tackle the ball carrier. If I can remember correctly back when I played we were taught that you were to tackle the ball carrier. Being that I was one of the better defensive players in the league I thought I'd explain a correct tackle.

Of course the first thing you have to identify is the ball carrier, the one carrying the football. After identifying the carrier, then you can begin your technique.

Next thing the defender does is to focus on the ball carriers waist. Keeping eyes on the waist the defender runs toward the ball carrier aiming his shoulder towards their waist, arms extended.

Once the shoulder contacts the ball carrier, the defender wraps both arms tightly around the ball carrier. Gripping the carrier as to give them a hug. Shoulder against the waist of the ball holder, keeping their feet moving in the direction they were going. By holding on tight the defender is making the ball carrier run with extra weight, and by moving their feet they are pushing them off balance. Never relaxing.

Once a defender has a have a tight grip on the ball carrier and are keeping their feet moving. Keep the grip and slide down the runner in a twisting manner. This helps the runner lose their balance, thus a perfect tackle.
