How do we define success?

How do we define success?

Every where I look, I see success defined by wealth. If a person is a millionaire, or has a booming career, we call them successful, often without knowing anything else about them. Is money all it takes to be considered successful today?

What about someone who is a great parent? What about someone who's been lucky in love? What about the person with little to no monetary wealth who gives their life to helping others and is never to be found without loyal family and/or friends around? Are these people not just as successful, albeit in a different fashion?

Whenever I think about it, I have to admit that I would rather be poor and loved, then rich and alone. I'm sure you would probably make the same choice as well, if those were your only two options. So, why is it that we have such a tendency to define our worth by how much we have in the bank?
