How Do You Say "Rah Rah, Sis Boom Bah!" in Mandarin?

How Do You Say "Rah Rah, Sis Boom Bah!" in Mandarin?

To rev up its army of athletes in the Beijing Olympics, China is training people to become cheerleaders for its sports teams. So they've created classes to instruct people in cheerleading, according to a recent story that aired on the radio in the U.S. The classes run a total of 10 hours, and some workers are taking time off without pay to get the cheer training.

"The students in one cheerleading class are not leggy athletic girls with pompoms, but rather desk-bound, middle-aged government employees brandishing balloons," the article notes.

Imagine Michael from "The Office" training his employees in cheers, waving balloons...

This article says that at least 300,000 people will be on China's Olympic cheering squads.

One cheer goes, "Smile, Beijing, a smile shows Beijing's best tomorrow." It doesn't sound all that rousing to me, but I guess it might be more dramatic sung by a middle-aged office worker furiously waving his balloon-holding arms around as if he was trying to land a jumbo jet.

Or maybe not.

Bloggers, human rights activists,

and members of Falun Gong need not apply to the maximum patriotic happy cheerleader program.

They could be used

by the Indian Premiere League, as cheap labour - Cheer Leaders for the next season of Cricket matches. I am sure Ambani or even Vijay Mallya and SRK would love to hire them (cheap). They've already spent a lot in the first year.

Ready? O K! Gimme a "C"

Gimme an "O", Gimme an "N", Gimme an "F", Gimme an "O", "R", "M!" What's that spell? CONFORM! CONFORM! YAAAAAAAAAY!

Save the cheerleader, save the Olympics

Maybe the Chinese Olympic Committee could adopt that slogan. I wonder if the Chinese are lobbying to make cheerleading an Olympic event? They'd have squadrons of people already trained.

Sis Boom Bah!

The equivalent of Daddy's money in China would be the money you get if you're a party apparatchik (or whatever they call such folks in China).

now i can say, "all

now i can say, "all cheerleaders look alike". "On a long enough timeline, the survival rate for evryone drops to zero" --Tyler Durden Visit: http://metalatem.blogspot.com

Reminds Me of Days at Oklahoma City University

That place ... it has a Law School on one side, a Dance School on the other. I was only going for a Bachelors', and I can't dance; but a lot of the classes I went to were with people who could dance and were using 'Daddy's money' to either "get educations for themselves" or to "meet someone who was in the course of so doing"---lotsa 'sis boom bah' in office attire. ... signed, Uncle MythMan---Big Fan of Friend-Networks like Hi-5 - About SuperBust, Watch Me

Cheerleading

"Just a thought - what will China do after the Olympics?" After all the buildup to the Olympics, there will probably be a letdown after they've over. I'll be curious to see if all the "outsiders" in the country make the citizens jealous and demand more openness in their lives.

cheerleading - plenty of opportunity

to see rah rah on TV soon. And the next 5 yr plan is going to be drastic i feel, so you are right about the cheer leading needed! But one has to admire the single mindedness. Overkill for sure

Yeah, it seems odd for a country to hire and train cheerleaders to support its teams and Olympics. Maybe after the Games are over they can use the cheerleaders to cheer on government employees, or to try to rev up excitement for the next Five-Year Plan (if they still do those).
