YouTube videos, Google videos, Metacafe videos can not normally be saved like other files on the computer. Neither is a download permitted. Metacafe and veoh do permit downloading but their videos cannot be viewed without their own GUI. Moreover even if you do succeed in downloading the content, you cannot use the same format in your iPod, iPhone etc

Zamzar allows one to download and convert the YouTube videos, Google videos, Metacafe videos etc and also converts the files to mp4 or any other desired format so that you can then transfer the files to your devices.

The website gives you option to either convert or download the files. For conversion just select the file from your computer and choose the format for conversion and the website will send you the link to the converted file which you can download.

For downloading videos from YouTube, google etc just specify the URL and the file format you want and again the download link for the converted file will be emailed to you.

It also gives one an option wherein you can have the zamzar link in your favorites and as you are watching the video just click on the convert with zamzar link in the Favorites menu. The website will automatically convert the file to the desired format and send you the link.

The only limitation with a free account is that you can use the service for files limited to 100 MB size, which in my opinion will cater for most videos from YouTube and Google.
