How to Dress Up Your Table With Elegant Table Settings

When company is coming for dinner, you want them to be greeted by the fragrant aroma of perfectly cooked food and to enjoy their meal served on beautifully set table. When creating a table setting, simple and elegant almost always makes the best impression, but you also want it to have style. Here are some ideas on how to create elegant table settings with style for company or for your own family meals.

Keep the color scheme simple

Don't try to bring add many colors into your table setting as it can make it look overdone. You want a color scheme that's simple and elegant and that coordinates well with your dining room. Keep your colors to a maximum of three. Some good choices, depending upon your home décor scheme, are shades of gold, burgundy, and even deep purples. Choose your napkins and table covering to compliment one another. Keep in mind that a table covering doesn't have to be a conventional tablecloth. You can use unconventional items such as an antique bed covering or even buy some cloth at the fabric store and make your own. Why not consider a textured table covering? A textured covering for your table can add a great deal of warmth and depth.

Create your own custom centerpiece

Instead of buying a pre-made centerpiece, showcase your creativity by making your own. You can create a spectacular looking centerpiece without spending a great deal of money. Try incorporating natural elements into your centerpiece, collected on a nature walk. You can use beautiful twigs and branches, pine cones, nuts, flowers from your garden, fruit, vegetables, and brilliantly colored autumn leaves. Why not cover an inexpensive clay pot with acorns or colored leaves and put a pillar candle in the middle? Surround it with small gourds and interesting twigs. Natural elements can look earthy and comforting and best of all they're free. Other elements you can use to make a centerpiece are wine bottles, cookies, miniatures, small bird houses, candy ribbons, and cinnamon sticks. Use you imagination.

Keep your arrangement interesting

To make your table setting more interesting and appealing to the eye, vary the height of the elements you use. Avoid keeping everything on a single level. Just be sure you don't create an arrangement that makes it difficult for people on opposite sides of the table to see one another. You can use small boxes covered in fabric to vary the height of the elements in your setting.

Add light

Nothing attracts the eye more than a beautifully illuminated setting. One of the best ways to add light is to use pillar candles in various heights. Candles almost always add a touch of elegance to a meal. For a dramatic centerpiece, fill a large punch bowl with water and add floating tea candles. For an extra element of color, add colorful glass beads or marbles to the bowl to reflect the light.

Elegant table settings can be easy to create and don't have to require a lot of money. All you need is a little creative spirit and imagination. Why not create your own tabletop masterpiece?
