How to Excel in your Exams- Tips to get the best grades

Very many people of all ages and cultures a cross the globe love to excel in any for of examinations they do so that they can attain the best grades but the question remains how? As a senior educator I have put together in this article some of the requirements for excelling in an examination.

Have enough time to prepare for your test. Read and discuss with your friends about the same exam consult libraries, bookstores and internet. Revise previous and relevant past papers if possible. The secret of excelling is threefold: Prepare, Prepare and prepare! Sitting for an exam without enough preparation is like eating a meal which is half-baked.

Find out the likes and dislikes of the examiner. This will help you to avoid presenting unnecessary information to the examiner. You need to learn what your examiners are looking for. A previous marking guide or discussing with one of the examiners can do you a good deal. Try to access the examiners reports if possible and read their comments.

Budget for your time properly. This depends on the number of questions you are supposed to answer. Divide the time you are given by the number of questions you have depending on their length and marks awarded, and answer each question within its time limit. If you do not finish the question in time, leave some space and come back to it after you have finished the rest, if time allows.

Present your work precisely and logically. Good handwriting is essential for your examiner to understand what you are writing about and gives you appropriate marks. Examiners are impressed by very good hand writing and at times they give bonus marks to those candidates who write very well. They are irritated by poor hand writing and deny some marks where there would be no need. Please write well.

Read, understand and follow the instructions properly. Understanding and following instructions is part of answering an exam. Most examiners get irritated and deny marks to those candidates who are careless and do not follow the instructions properly. You may do well all the rest but fail to follow instructions hence poor performance.

Have sufficient time to rest the night before you sit for your exam. This will help your mind and body to be sober thus function properly. The mind remember what you read properly and reason logically. Never be in an overnight the night before you do an exam. You can actually sleep and wake when all the time is gone!
