If you are trying to trouble shoot your pc's problems, it may help if you have some basic information about your pc. Weather a friend is helping you over the phone, or tech support, having some basic details can speed things up.

ipconfig

click the start button in the bottom left corner of your screen. Click on the option that says "run". Type in "CMD" without the quotes. This will open the command prompt. From here type in "ipconfig /all"

You can get information about your ip address, your mac address, default gatway and more. This will be needed when trying to troubleshoot connectivity issues.

Now single right click on the icon on your desktop called my computer. o down to properties and single left click.

On the General tab(the default tab) it will give you a listing of your computers specs. This can be very usually information to give to anyone helping you to trouble shoot. This will probably be most helpful when trying to narrow down hardware issues, and performance issues.
