How to Get Funding for Your Creative Film Project
Once upon a time creatives in the film sector would work hard to put together a project, pitch it to production companies and get it knocked back. Then they might seek funding elsewhere… and get that knocked back. Then their project would be shelved and in 99.9% of cases their project would never see the light of day again.

Thus, in this manner, millions and millions of potentially worthwhile comedies, documentaries, dramas, historical dramas, horror stories, thrillers, shorts and feature films have never even made it beyond the idea stage. The creatives would understandably (no matter the brilliance of their project) feel they were flogging a dead horse and give up. After that they might come up with further ideas and go through the same process and then, when they’d received sufficient rejection, give up all together.

Once upon a time creatives had two options: Either successfully pitch their idea to a production company and have it made OR fund it themselves. Well, nowadays there’s a third option. The third option is best understood in reference to Barack Obama’s successful campaign to become President of the United States of America.

Barack Obama’s campaign made $1million a day in donations less than $1,000. These donations were made via the internet. Creatives can now use a similar process to get funding for their projects.

Have a look at some of the websites that are facilitating this now. The best seems to be IndieGoGo.com but there are others including: KickStarter.com, Kiva.org, Zopa.com, Artishare.com, Sellaband.com and Prosper.com
