How to Get Your Articles Noticed - Feedburner step one
posted November 21, 2008 - 12:11pmYou've seen that some commenters have a banner showing their recent Xombytes. They are easy to do. I actually wanted to write about something more important, but as it still requires Feedburner I thought I'd do this first, especially so first time users know where their feed is.
OK, first step is to go to feedburner.com. If you don't already have an account just create one for free. Once you're in then you can burn a new feed. So what's that, then?
Well, whenever you publish a Xombyte, it gets added to your personal feed (whether or not you or anybody else actually uses it). By publishing your feed it means other people can follow just your Xombytes, even when they are not on Xomba.
Your raw Xomba feed will look like this:
http://www.xomba.com/xombyte/xxxxxxxxxx/feed
where xxxxxxxxxx should be replaced with your Xomba username.
Note that if your username has spaces then replace them with an underscore. Now, the feed on its own is useful, but by burning the feed through Feedburner you can do lots of other very clever things. If "burning" sounds painful, don't worry, it just means your feed gets rerouted through the Feedburner site, gets bells and whistles added, then comes out the other end all sparkly and new.
Now that you've created your new feed you now have two different feeds of your Xombytes. You can still use the original Xomba feed if you wish, but you now also have a Feedburner feed.
If you really really want one of those rotating feed banners then just click on Publicize label and then Headline Animator. See which size and colour combinations you like and then create your animated banner. At this point you might wonder, where's my banner code? Under the newly created banner just look inside the dropdown menu and the item "just gimme the code!" (I guess they thought it was funny).
Now just add the code into your Xomba signature. There you go! That wasn't so painful. Now, this wasn't really what I wanted to talk about but just a way to get you inside Feedburner to take a look at the other features that can help get more exposure to your Xomba articles, and indeed any other articles you write anywhere else.
