Instilling the Spirit of Goodwill in your Child
posted September 1, 2009 - 4:54am
Starting at a young age, a child can develop qualities from parents and relatives that you don’t even realize. They are prone to develop good ones and bad ones. Habits are not the same. They may randomly pick up bad habits from a friend
but qualities are bred and taught by our families. They do not always come so natural but by what we see daily. Teaching the spirit of goodwill comes from seeing this happen in your childhood.
When a child sees kindness by a family member towards a neighbor or friend, it is recorded in their memory. If it is repeated it will be recorded more and therefore has the potential of being a quality they will repeat in their future.
The spirit of goodwill, for instance, can be shown and interpreted in many ways. Kindness can be shown, not only towards people but towards animals. This quality can be shown or not shown on a daily basis to each other in the household.
What we want our children to learn on a regular basis, day in and day out, is being acted out everyday. There are a ton of qualities besides the spirit of goodwill that are demonstrated everyday in our home. On the most part, it’s the ones that are continually acted out, negative or positive, that will play the biggest role in your child’s life.
By showing the spirit of goodwill or compassion or lack of it, it makes an impression in your child’s life. Teaching our children the kind of qualities that will enhance their lives in the future is the best way to enrich their lives and the lives of others.
