How to make your own cushion covers.

No matter what their shape or size, cushions can add style to a room. They can be made in practically any colour or material and they are a non- expensive way of adding that finishing touch to any room.
Cushion covers are easy to make, and require very little sewing skills, making them the perfect home furnishing to create yourself.
Cushions can be round or square, this article tells you how to create a square cushion cover, I will post an article on how to make round cushion covers at a later date.
Step 1. Measure the cushion itself. Make sure you leave 1 inch all round for ease and seam allowances, and an extra 3 cm for the back centre seam.
Step 2. Mark the measurements on your chosen fabric

Step 3. Cut out the fabric. Pin and stitch the centre back seam, making sure that you leave enough room for the zip.

Step 4. Press the seam open.

Step 5. Pin the zip into place along the opening. Tack (baste) into place and remove the pins.

Step 6. Stitch the zip firmly into place with a sewing machine.

Step 7. Press the seam allowances around the zip.

Step 8. Carefully open the zip, with the zip still open, put the front and backs pieces right sides together.

Step 9. Pin, tack and machine stitch around the edge, you may want to do this twice for added strength.

Step 10. Carefully cut away the excess fabric from around the seams.

Step 11. Press the seams and turn the fabric the right way through the zipped opening.

Step 12. Press the seams and put the cushion inside, then simply close the zip.
