How To Make Your Own Redneck Hot Tub For Under $200.

Can't afford a three thousand dollar hot tub?
Here is how to make your own hot tub for about two hundred bucks or less.
First you will need a good sized water heater. If you don't have a large enough water heater, at least eighty gallons or larger, this won't work.
Go to your local feed store or Tractor Supply store and buy an oval, galvanized horse water trough. These are somewhat larger than the old fashioned claw foot tubs.
Get one that is at least five feet long and big enough to lie down in.

Next to keep your redneck hot tub warm, buy some foil sided insulation wrap. One brand is called Reflectix. It has bubble wrap in the middle and foil on both sides. Cut this to fit around the outside of the tub and tape it in place.
Next cut enough cedar fence boards to go all around the tub. Cut them to a height of just under the lip of the tub. Sand the top edges to you won't get splinters getting in and out of the tub. You may want to stain them redwood color before putting them on.
You can hold them in place with a metal band, such as flashing metal that is sold in fifty foot rolls, two inches high.
Screw a couple bands of the flashing metal to the boards. Two screws in each board will suffice.

Install a faucet in the 3/4 inch hole at the bottom of the tub for easy draining.
There you have it, your tub is done.
Now all you have to do is get hot water to it.
If you are a good plumber you can do the following yourself, otherwise hire a plumber.
Depending where on the outside of your home you place your redneck hot tub you may be able to pipe hot water from a bathroom or kitchen to a faucet that you mount on the exterior of your home.
You may want to place it near a cold water faucet and run two hoses, one for hot and one for cold to the hot tub.
Be sure and label the hot water faucet outside so that it is not used for lawn watering. You may have to adjust your hot water heater thermostat to have enough hot water to fill your redneck hot tub but do not make it scalding since this can be dangerous.

All jokes about home bubble producing systems aside, if you must have bubbles try a couple of "bath bombs" when you use your redneck hot tub. These are sold at places like Bath And Bodyworks or on e-Bay. They contain carbonation and essential oils and fizz up and make tiny soothing bubbles along with releasing essential oils for your skin.
Enjoy, and take satisfaction in having saved a couple of grand.
