How Many Calories Should You Be Eating?

Here is a link that allows a user to determine their daily calorie needs based on a variety of questions. The user must note wether they are male or female, their weight, and then their activity level. Acitivty level is based on sedentary, light acivity, moderate activity, heavy activity, and exceptional activity. To lose 1 pound per week, you need to reduce calorie intake by 500 calories per day.

Great information

 Thanks for the link to the BMI and the calorie counter.  Very helpful.

Simple Way to Determine Needed Calories

Here is a simple little formula I learned from a book called The Ultimate Carbohydrate Counter.

Target weight_______x activity factor= calories needed each day

Activity Factor:

20=very active men

15=moderately active men or very active women

13=inactive men, moderately active women, and people over 55

10=inactive women, repeat dieters, seriously overweight people

I wanted to lose 25 pounds and I am not big on exercise ( i.e. just not motivated enough to add it to my already busy life), so I tried this and I lost the weight in about 4 months doing nothing more than reducing my calorie intake.

My personal factors:

weight=165

target weight=140

activity factor=10

140x10=1400

This is truly all I did to lose 25 pounds. It took a bit of effort in learning how many calories were in what foods, but other than that, I simply lost the weight. To keep it off I just don't take in more calories than my body needs to maintain my perfect weight.

Hope this helps.
