How many sharks are out there?
posted January 3, 2009 - 2:47amThe truth is simply we don't know. There are thousands of shark species out there. More and more are discovered every day. As we go deeper into the ocean we discover hundreds of new species.

The image above is of course a Goblin Shark. There is no other shark that looks like it. Being one of my favorite sharks, it was thought to be extinct. However one was caught off the coast of Japan, and was deemed endangered. There are many more sharks of course like the Goblin Shark that were thought to be extinct then found.

The image above is a frilled shark, who was unnamed. If anyone wants to correct me on the name of the shark I would be thankful, but to my information it's unnamed. This one was also caught off of the coast of Japan, and thought to be extinct. It was even determined to be prehistoric.
These two examples of supposedly "extinct" sharks is a sign that people are finding more and more shark species every day. However sharks are amazing creatures, and are not to be feared, but respected. Without them we are gone.
