How Not To Make Money With Adsense

How Not To Make Money With Adsense

Y'know how an itch can eventually go away even if you don't scratch it? Well, for me, writing is not like that. The itch does not go away; it'll build up and up until it bursts out of me. Gawd help me if I don't have a keyboard or a piece of paper to let it out - I get distracted and sometimes snappy with the folks around me (poor folks!).

I never ever consider keywords when I write for Xomba which is probably part of my problem when it comes to making money with Adsense, which I don’t. I’ve been a member here for almost a year now and I haven’t yet reached the $20 mark. Yeah, it can get kind of frustrating when I see other folks who have been members for less time and easily hit $100 seemingly without trying. Maybe they just have better writing skills or more interesting articles than I do. Hell, I don’t really mind if that’s the case; - I’m just here so I can have somewhere to put my writing, I guess.

When I'm writing, I'm not thinking of search engines or how to make money or how to get a higher rating than other folks. To be honest, it's the articles that I least expect to that get the highest ratings (such as this one) and it's the ones that I sometimes work the hardest on (like The Bloop) that can go un-noticed. Yet, in saying that, I have noticed that anything with a touch of humour in it (Please Excuse Me As I Install My Fart Silencer), can be very well recieved.

Anyways, I don't want to sound Bukowskian or anything but if folks want to read what I've written, they will. If they don't, then I bear no grudge against them. Don’t get me wrong, I do care about the content and quality of my writing - I care very much – but I find that the task of thinking of and including keywords for search engines distracts me from whatever it is I want to say in my articles. Maybe this is something I just have to work on?

SEO..Keywords.....such things

Honestly, I dont ever consider them though I am sure it is most beneficial. Those things are some of the things I have in my head to learn about in these upcoming months. That and the darn feedburner. I have tried several times to get that thing to work on my comments and Im missing something. ugh... Great article. Gets one to thinking. Thanks for sharing.

don't feel bad, XX

Although I'm doing slightly better than you (earning almost $95 in a year and five months at Xomba), I share your opinion on keywords. I hate 'em. I once wrote a few articles just concentrating on keywords and even checking their density levels on a keyword measuring website, or whatever it was called. The articles sounded horrible to me. And so I decided to be true to myself, because for me, the best writing does NOT contain the same old same old words, it utilizes the vast vocabulary that English is blessed with. I revel in using dusty, neglected words and utilizing lexiconic variety in my writing. Anything else is, to me, bad writing, and sadly, the Internet teems with bad writers who are often rewarded for that with more bucks than the better writers. There's a school of thought that says, the simpler the better, i.e., the easier to understand you make your article (gearing it to, let's say, sixth graders), the more readers you'll have. But I think you have to be true to yourself, and if yourself happens to be hopelessly multisyllabic or you like to talk about unpopular subjects, then go for it. If Adsense is the only income you have, that would be a problem, but if, as for most of us, it's just an opportunity to make some pocket change, then stick to what you do best and what pleases you. And eventually you'll reach the magical $100 mark. So don't worry about it.

Keywords are so important

I love doing keyword research but I like you at the start never bothered and just wrote a little. As a result I made practically nothing then I learned about keyword research and how to find keywords with low direct competition and as a result I have seen my xomblurbs, blog posts and helium articles end up on the first page of google. http://www.helium.com/items/1356060-get-on-first-page-of-google

It's Not the Keywords, It's 'What the Keywords Do'

And 'what the keywords do' is actually something the 'highly-successful' posts' writers do too ... they connect with lots-and-lots-and-lots of people. In non-keyword terms, that's easy to understand; you have lots-and-lots-and-lots of 'friends' (i.e. connections WHOM YOU ACTUALLY CONTACT & -WHO ACTUALLY READ YOUR WRITING)---that's your "list." (Sort of like when 'the marketing-gurus' say "the money's in the list"; except THEY mean 'list of regular BUYERS,' but all we need is a 'list of regular READERS.') Thinking about Keywords: Think of which 'keyword item' (description, celebrity, topic) has the most 'friends,' and make your writing 'friends-with' that 'keyword-item!' ---Joining Xomba FREE Helps Writers A LOT, but Google signs the checks for our writing about Buddhist Chant, Dr. Hot4Words, Happy Bounties~

Money is just a secondary consideration

When it becomes the focus of our writing rather than a pleasant outcome of it, our writing suffers. If it is our sole focus, we tend to latch onto every "hot" story that comes across something like Google Hot Trends and we end up becoming shallow, reactionary, and often frustrated. While keeping abreast of current events and reporting on them is certainly worthwhile, there are literally thousands of blogs out there doing the same thing. Lots of and perhaps too much competition. While we must balance writing about what we know, since we can write effectively and passionately from our own experience, with what sells, there are always new things to learn on the Internet that are categorized as SEO. Even the most prolific "gurus" keep their eyes and ears open to find a better way of doing what they already do. As fast as the Internet world moves, if you stop you've run the risk of no longer being relevant. CLICK HERE TO JOIN XOMBA TODAY!

Making Money Is Not BAD

It is good if you write here for the sake of writing good and useful things. Of course once you have an adsense account and have the writing skill then I suggest you to do little SEO and make decent money with adsense. Next time I hope you should do. Thanks for the comments and useful bookmarks :)

I swear I'm gonna spend time going through the suggested places. @ Idlewild; - maybe I set the bar too high for myself when it comes to expecting high ratings and reads in such short periods of time. I'll take it easier from now on. I think I'm going to focus on keywords and optimising search words and making my things easier to find through engines etc - at least for a wee while. @ MJ Dakota; - "It is a bunch of rules of how to, that don't make sense in my head." - I know! That's what it's like to my brain too. Gotta say thanks for your words of understanding and encouragement, and also for the smiley face that is your avatar :) @ mamamia07; - Thanks for the link there, tis appreciated. Looks simple enough for a starting point so I reckon I'll try and get myself familiar with that tool first. And cheers for your comment also. @ Rycharde Manne; - thanks for pointing me towards this article. It' been printed off and defaced with a highlighter pen. :) @ Jdubhub; - thanks for the firm but fair parenting..I mean...advice :p

Thanks Mamamia

Write What They Want to Read

Good for you! I also believe that good writing sells itself. I think I might be doing better though because I make it a point to write 5 articles a day and sometimes have to go through top searches to get ideas. those articles do better for me. And on Xomba, I only make money if my article makes it to the top rated. That's good motivation to write what my fellow Xombies will want to read!!!
