How Not To Make Money With Adsense

Y'know how an itch can eventually go away even if you don't scratch it? Well, for me, writing is not like that. The itch does not go away; it'll build up and up until it bursts out of me. Gawd help me if I don't have a keyboard or a piece of paper to let it out - I get distracted and sometimes snappy with the folks around me (poor folks!).

I never ever consider keywords when I write for Xomba which is probably part of my problem when it comes to making money with Adsense, which I don’t. I’ve been a member here for almost a year now and I haven’t yet reached the $20 mark. Yeah, it can get kind of frustrating when I see other folks who have been members for less time and easily hit $100 seemingly without trying. Maybe they just have better writing skills or more interesting articles than I do. Hell, I don’t really mind if that’s the case; - I’m just here so I can have somewhere to put my writing, I guess.

When I'm writing, I'm not thinking of search engines or how to make money or how to get a higher rating than other folks. To be honest, it's the articles that I least expect to that get the highest ratings (such as this one) and it's the ones that I sometimes work the hardest on (like The Bloop) that can go un-noticed. Yet, in saying that, I have noticed that anything with a touch of humour in it (Please Excuse Me As I Install My Fart Silencer), can be very well recieved.

Anyways, I don't want to sound Bukowskian or anything but if folks want to read what I've written, they will. If they don't, then I bear no grudge against them. Don’t get me wrong, I do care about the content and quality of my writing - I care very much – but I find that the task of thinking of and including keywords for search engines distracts me from whatever it is I want to say in my articles. Maybe this is something I just have to work on?

Betty Boop

This could be its own Jeopardy category: Things That Rhyme With "Gloop" I would be interested in seeing a comparison between having a fewer articles completely SEO'd by the numbers versus having a ton of articles well-written but not very SEO'd. I know I need to do more SEO myself, so I will, but I wonder if anyone has run the numbers. CLICK HERE TO JOIN XOMBA TODAY!

Bloop Goop

"it's the ones that I sometimes work the hardest on (like The Bloop) that can go un-noticed. " Now now, it's gotten 4 votes and more than 100 reads after less than a week... that's not bad. I've had some bytes that I put time into that had less than 10 reads after two weeks... into the dustbin of Xomba history. Maybe Bloop suffered from coming out at about the same time as Gwyneth Paltrow's blog, Goop? Folks may have thought there was a connection. Or maybe not. I know I should do more SEO stuff, but I'm pretty lazy about it and don't even think about it most of the time. When I do think about it, half the time I don't do anything about it. At the same time, I wouldn't want to be like some blurb writers on Xomba who will mention the same keywords 6 times in 6 short sentences.

Earning cash seems to...

...come second when I'm writing. Getting the darned thing outta my head, I think, is what drives me. I know folk are here for varying reasons. SEO is definately something I have to work on - in fact, I confess, I know very little about it! So anything that I come across now concerning SEO will definately be read with interest! Maybe I should make it my goal this month to see how well I can do with it? Watch this space.

SEO is pretty much a self-educational requirement

Call it a tool in your toolbox or your homework or whatever you want, but learning SEO if you want to make money isn't really a nicety or passing suggestion. You HAVE to learn how search engines work and how to write for them. Yes, there are some people who seem to fall into the perfect article, but it tends to be the exception rather than the rule. In a couple weeks, Nick and Jeremy will be going live with the new site upgrade, which will explode traffic for all of us, especially those of us who are established (that includes you.) Just keep plugging away until then and spend a little time each day learning about SEO. CLICK HERE TO JOIN XOMBA TODAY!
