How popular is Sarah Palin in Alaska?

How popular is Sarah Palin in Alaska?

Not very, it seems. Her recent return to Alaska was kicked off with an official "welcome home" rally attended by about a thousand people.

Meanwhile, however, the grassroots-organized "Alaska Women Reject Sarah Palin" rally boasted 1400 people which, small as the number sounds, makes it the largest political rally in the history of the state of Alaska!

I knew that the figures Republicans love to cite about Palin's alleged popularity in her own state where phony, seeing as they came from polls taken well before Palin's many mishandlings, scandals, abuses of power and downright theft of taxpayer money, but now we have some pretty good evidence that she's highly unpopular at home. This is unusual, since in most cases a presidential or VP candidate can count on the support of their own state.

Rally

Well, the blogger said "biggest political rally" in state's history, not grassroots, unofficial, etc. I'd think there must have been some political event that would have attracted at least 1,400 (people, that is... not counting moose, huskies, etc.).

I wouldn't be surprised

I wouldn't be surprised if it was. If 1000-2000 (depending on who's right) is all they get for a big official political gathering, I'm willing to believe that 1400 sets a record for a grassroots rally. Remember, the second largest city in Alaska has only 9000 people.

Palin rallies

ABC reported that the Palin welcome-home rally attracted "2,000 supporters" -- twice what that blog post reports. That post also claims that the anti-Palin rally was "the biggest political rally ever, in the history of the state." Now, I know Alaska is not a huge state in terms of population, but 1,400 is the most people they have been able to muster for a political rally? In their entire history?
