How to Prepare Your Heart for Worship

Hezekiah, one of the godliest kings in the Bible, was son of Ahaz, one of the worst. What does that have to do with worship? Hezekiah wanted to celebrate a passover, but his father had desecrated the temple with the connivance of the high priest (2 Kings 16, 2 Chronicles 28). He realized that he had to restore the priesthood and the temple before any passover celebration would be acceptable to God. 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 says that we, the church, are the temple. 1 Corinthians 6:19 says that our bodies individually are the temple. The temple is where God dwells. 1 Peter 2:9 says we are a royal priesthood. Priests minister in the temple. Therefore, Hezekiah's preparation, as told in 2 Chronicles 29, is a picture of what we, as priests and temple, need to do.
