How to Prevent Acne
posted August 16, 2009 - 1:17amIf there is one statement to live by, it's that prevention is the best medicine. Colds, sore thorats, and chicken pox can all eventually be cured, however, you can spare yourself the incovenience by taking a few precautionary steps. Acne is one of those disorders that is largely preventable if action is immediately, and a person spends time learning a thing or two about the condition. Most people actually have acne simply because they don't understand how the disease works and consequently buy useless products. In this article, we will walk you through what you should do to avoid acne.
People get mixed reactions when they get their first pimple. Some are excited, others not so much. In either case, most proceed to quicky pop it. While a landmark event, popping your first pimple can set you down an irrversible road if the trend continues. When you squeeze pimples, you release all the contaminants contained within them. These contaminants spread to nearby areas, infecting other pores. One zit, turns into three, which turn into 4 more, and finally you have acne. The first secret in how to prevent acne is to refrain from popping zits. PERIOD.
The next mistake people make is buying harsh products that serve no purpose other than to create more breakouts. You do not need an oil removing cleanser that leaves your skin dry, or a toner that causes a similar effect. Leave the oil on your skin alone, it is there for a reason. Remove it and your skin will become irritated. It will reward you with more breakouts. Buy a gentle cleanser if you plan to cleanse your skin. Cetaphil products are highly recommended. Some of the features to look out for include alcohol-free, sodium lauryl sulfate-free, and pH balanced. Do not use standard soap on your face as it will compromise it's acidity.
Showering presents the perfect opportunity for people to scrub at their face. Do not do this. Use the above cleanser with your hands, massaging it in, letting it sit, and finally rinsing it off. Always, always just dab your face dry. Rubbing equals irritation. On the subject of showering and hygeine in general, make sure your shampoo and toothpaste do not contain the skin irritant sodium lauryl sulfate. Shop around and see what products you can find.
