To renew your California Driver's License through online service you have to have a California Driver's License in the past. If your license is expiring after a five year period, you can follow these directions to receive a new one without the hassel of going to the Department of Motor Vehicles and standing in the long lines.

Go onto the California's Department of Motor Vehicles website. Click on the Online Services tab on your top left hand corner. You will see a list of options to follow. Click on to the "Online Driver's License Renewal".

Follow the instructions on the page. You must have a Renewal Identification Number (RIN) with a renewal notice. You must not have a change of address. You must be the person named on the renewal notice and you must have your social security number available to you.

You first need to enter your 8 digit Driver's License number and then 6 digit Renewal Identificatin Number. Once it is verified you will acknowledge the medical information, disclosures and certifications.

In the end you will fill out your payment information. You will have two options to submit your payment by. One is through the e-checking service and the other is through a credit card. For e-checking option you also need to provide your bank's routing number for your checking account. After you have done this you will receive a confirmation number for your transaction online. If everything goes smooth you should receive your new Driver's License within two weeks.
