How TiVo saved my marriage

It was not that long ago that I was given a TiVo DVR as a gift from a friend. Within a few days I had it hooked up to my TV, it takes the place of the existing DirecTV box. I t took a little bit to get acquainted with this thing but it now seems like it was a Godsend! I would highly recommend for everyone to get a TiVo, it could just save your relationship like it did mine.

So there I was, watching my favorite sport, which happens to be Mixed Martial Arts. I was happy and totally focused on my show when it happened. I heard my wife yell out from the kitchen “Can you take out the trash?” Now I did hear her but in typical guy fashion I roll my eyes and keep watching my show. A few minutes go by and she sees that I haven’t budged from slowly indenting couch and she yells again “DIDN’T YOU HEAR ME, CAN YOU TAKE OUT THE DAMN TRASH?” Now of course I heard her the first time but I wasn’t going to move, this time I just give her “the look”. You know the one that says “I am busy leave me alone” without even having to say a word. After this one I can hear her muttering all sorts of obscenities to herself about what a lazy bastard I am being.

Now see me being new to TiVo I failed to realize that you can record shows on it and even pause live TV. I am sure everyone can relate, you get totally engrossed in a show or your favorite soap opera, then your mate appears out of nowhere and asks you to do a menial chore. Of course, if you do it right away you miss the part of your show you were waiting for. This has happened to me too many times. Or even worse you end up arguing about it straight through and miss your show anyway. Too many of these arguments and your relationship can soon be on shaky ground. Mine was close and then we got TiVo.

Things have changed for the better, sure my wife and I still argue, but not about TV anymore. TiVo has really helped us out. When she asks me to do something I just hit the pause button, knock it out, and then back to my show! Same for her, if she’s in the middle of a soap opera and I need help picking out a pair of socks, she puts it on pause and helps me out. Then she can always resume back to her show and doesn’t miss the explanation of how Ramon got genital warts from his ex’s sister. And if you’re stuck going to your kids’ school for open house you can always set it to record your favorite show then watch it later. This thing is amazing, if the TV is causing a rift in your relationship, it doesn’t have to anymore. TiVo is the way to go; it’s kind of like marriage counseling but without having to talk to some sleazy quack.

You should have anticipated her asking you ahead of time

In the days before TiVo, there was the Whipped Guy's Guide to Life. Rule #302 explicitly states: Quote:302. Except in cases of mental illness on the part of the whipped male, he must always anticipate what the female desires even if she hasn't expressed it or thought of it yet. Mental illness may not be used as an excuse without providing a written doctor's note with an accompanying second opinion by a medical health professional of the female's choosing. Personally, I believe the TiVo/DVR freed a lot of guys from bondage. Interesting article. +1 CLICK HERE TO JOIN XOMBA TODAY!
