How to care for simple wounds

Minor wounds no matter how small may tend to cause a problem. There is always the treat of possible infection. It is imperative that minor wounds should be handled properly to avoid the risk of getting infected.

This procedure is only done if the wound is minor or shallow. Remember that bigger wounds needs more attention since severe bleeding may be present. For information on how to handle bleeding, Click here

For minor wounds,simply do the following:

1. Wash with soap and water. As much as possible use medicated soaps or bathroom soaps. Do not use detergent soaps since they contain chemicals that may cause additional injury to the wound.
2. Flush the wound with running water.
3. Remove small objects that are on the wound. Use sterile tweezers to do it.
4. Apply antibiotic ointment to the wound
5. Cover the wound with sterile dressing.

Be sure to change the dressing from time to time and be aware of the signs of infections.
