how to get into archery
posted August 21, 2007 - 1:52ammany people go away to holiday camps and while there do a spot of archery, when they come back they want to find out about doing archery as a hobby or take it up as a sport.
if you are one of these people or you skiped the holiday camp part then here are some steps you can follow to get into the sport.
the first thing you need to know is that you can not just buy a bow and some arrows and shot at the local pigeon's, the first thing you must do is find a club near you which does archery.
if you live in london then I would highly recommend a club know as London Archers.
you can normally find these clubs through the web and once you have found one near you you will need to find out about beginner courses.
a beginner course is a short course you must go on before you can join a club, on a beginners couse you will learn how to shot correctly and the rules you must follow to keep safe.
most clubs have web site's which have the detail's about these courses, for example information about the London archers beginners course can be found at:
http://www.londonarchers.com/train.html
most courses only run in the summer and fill up fast so you should apply as sone as possible, while on a beginners course you will normally be provided with equipment so you don't have to buy it if you chosse not to continue.
after completing a beginners course you have the skill's to become a good archer, as long as you put in the time and effert, but after the course you will have to buy your own equipment.
hope this helps anyone interested in getting into archery and remember, that you must become a member of a club before you can shoot a bow, this is for your own safty and the safty of those around you.
